Editing Services

With a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing, fiction, I have been working with writers and their words for the last seven years.

It is something I genuinely love to do. I'm a writer, too, so I understand the work—the long hours, the emotional toll, the fear you've overcome—in order to complete a draft. I also recognize the love you've poured into your work. I want to help you and your words reach their full, brilliant potential!

I specialize in adult and literary fiction—short and long form—as well as young adult, urban fantasy, magical realism, romance, and women's fiction. I also accept memoir and creative nonfiction.

I offer developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading services, as well as manuscript critiques. Please see below for more details and pricing.

Choosing an editor can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be! Most editors, if they're good editors, do what they do because they love language as much as they love helping writers. One way to determine if an editor is right for you is to ask for an editing sample. With this in mind, if you're a new client, I'll edit five pages for free, so you can see my editing style before you commit to hiring me.

Developmental Editing (aka The Book Coach) - $0.009/word

I like to think about developmental editing more like coaching than editing. A book is a highly personal thing. It is voltaged with its own personality and whims. My goal with a developmental edit is to help every idiosyncratic, electrified part find its most compelling connection.

With this in mind, I will focus on the content of your manuscript and, in track changes, a 3-7 page critique letter, and a thirty-minute phone or Skype conversation, identify the following:

  • Impressions of and suggestions for improvement in the following categories:

    • Narrative arc

    • Emotional arc

    • Character Development

    • Structure

    • Tone

    • Dialogue

  • Scenes that need more development, need to be deleted, need to be added, or need to be moved

  • Discrepancies in plot details

  • Imbalance of exposition and action

This service also includes a follow-up manuscript critique, in which I'll take a look at the changes you've made and offer any additional feedback.

Line Editing - $0.008/word

As your line editor, I will take a close look at your sentences and edit for language, style, and grammar. I will ensure that your sentences are structurally accurate, but I should mention that I love sentences that break rules, too. I am a sucker for fragments. Ultimately, my main goal is to ensure that your senteces are structured in a way that enhances the meaning of the text.

All changes will be made in track changes and comments on your manuscript draft.

This service also includes a one-page critique letter and a follow-up proofreading pass to ensure that the text is error-free.

Proofreading - $0.005/word

If you have already been through developmental and line editing rounds, it's time for proofreading. I'll be taking a very close look at your sentences to catch any lingering typos and other grammatical errors. All changes will be made in track changes and/or comments on your manuscript draft.

All-in-One - $0.013/word

With this service, I will work with you on every stage of the editing process, as detailed above. You will receive:

- Developmental editing, including a 3-7 page critique letter, a thirty-minute phone or Skype conversation, plus a follow-up manuscript critique after you have revised your manuscript.

- Line Editing

You will also save money by purchasing all three services together. Plus, there's the added bonus of having a consistent, dedicated editor to help you through the whole editing journey!
